23-year-old Lakita Evans paid attention in her branding class. What better way to get noticed than to stir up a bit of controversy? Which she did with her much debated and highly talked about burger joint in Waco, Tx she calls “FAT HO BURGER”. Alongside crispy tots and fries, one can order a Supa Dupa Fat Ho with cheese, a Sloppy Ho Brisket or even a Toasty Ho! The restaurant which recently opened has been the topic of much conversation around the country.
Evans said, she called the burger joint HO Burger as a way to inject some humor in to an otherwise dismal time as failing economies and natural disasters affect the world around us. Amusing to some, but not all. Almost on cue, Christian organizations, including a volunteer run Christian diner and bookstore which sits around the corner from Evans’ HO Burger are complaining that the name is insensitive and have even created a Facebook page petitioning a name change for the neighborhood joint.
“It’s not calling people a ho. It’s just like they say, ‘Oooh, that ho is big,’ or, ‘That ho is tight!’ ” says Evans. “Look what’s going on in Japan,” she adds. “It’s like clear this world is not gonna get any better. Why cry and be depressed? The economy is bad. Somebody gotta keep a sense of humor around here.”
HO’s betta recognize!
