Got it covered…

Yes, yes y’all… It’s Hip Hop Appreciation week and the journey continues.

Over the years we’ve seen hip hop grow and expand to be an all encompassing aspect of American culture. Some purists would argue that the true art is dead. I disagree. Like Mos Def said, we are hip hip and hip hop goes where we go.

I find the fact that people from all walks of life have come to embrace and participate in hip hop invigorating. It broadens the conversation and makes for some fun, exciting and interesting interpretations of the art form. Like any art style, it must evolve to stay relevant. It must also expand as it grows and sure it may look different depending on your vantage point, but at it’s heart it remains the same.

So today I present something “new”. Check out this cover of Chris Brown, Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne’s joint “Look At Me Now” by musician @karminmusic. Karmin  has become an Internet sensation for her creative covers of popular songs including a few hardcore hip hop bangers. (Quietly, I like her version better than the original… Lol)
