As a child, i watched so much television that I could tell time, to the minute, by which number commercial break was on during a program. I developed a special admiration for commercials and the creativity it took to make them. I like a clever commercial. Something witty or thought provoking. Or maybe its just shot beautifully and accompanied by some great copywriting. As a result, I look forward to Superbowl commercials. Its the time when art directors, creative directors and brands all over put their best foot forward and shell out big money to have the most talked about spot. I know its difficult to cram capitalism, humor and creativity into 30 seconds, but over the years, there have been some BANGERS! Like ones by FEDEX and DORITOS or even those that were banned, like this one from ROLLING ROCK beer.
Sadly, this year’s SuperBowl commercials SUCKED! So much so, that I had to go back and dig up some actual good commercials to bring back some semblance of normalcy to my life. One of my favorite all time commercials, though not a Superbowl commercial, has to be the Toyota Sienna Family with SWAGGER WAGON.
Cleverly written, beautifully shot and tastefully satirical, the SWAGGER WAGON video wins on multiple fronts. I’d be proud to roll with this crew any day and you wil be too! Check it out:
