R.I.P. Teena Marie
R&B icon, Teena Marie has died at the age of 54. She was known widely as “Lady T”, and for her work with the late great Rick James. Reports are vague, but from what we gather, she died of natural causes in her sleep. Our hearts go out to her fans and loved ones. Rest well Lady T!
Her hits include “Lovergirl,” “Ooo La La La” as well as classics with Rick James like “Fire & Desire”. Marie is also noted for her win in a landmark lawsuit against Motown Records which created what is now known as the “Brockert Initiative” (after Teena’s given name) which prevents record labels from holding artists under contract while refusing to release their music. After a lengthy hiatus from the music industry, Teena Marie released a project “Congo Square” in 2009 and continued to tour up until recently.
You know we can’t end this with out handling a little biz… You know, “Square Biz”… Everybody GET UP!
